It’s so cliché to say, but I feel like this year is already flying by. With one month down, I’m definitely feeling the need to get focused on my goals for the year ahead and start making things happen. You see, January was a pretty hectic month for me and with so many other things that came up, I wasn’t able to work on the biggest project on my to-do list. The reality is, if I had tried to fit it into my schedule, I probably would have lost my mind.
Now that things have simmered down a bit, my priority for this month is to start making a dent in those first quarter goals I set for myself. In addition to those bigger business goals, I always like to set some smaller goals for myself each month to encourage progress. So, here’s what I will be focused on this month:
Create a resource for new bloggers.
If you’re on my email list, you may recall an email I sent out fairly recently where I asked my subscribers if they were bloggers or not. The reason for this was because I was reviewing the results of a reader survey I sent out late last year and discovered many of my readers have held themselves back from starting a blog for one reason or another.
I asked them to send me their questions and I’ve been compiling them to put it all together into one comprehensive resource. This is the main project I’ll be focusing on in the month ahead. I’m hoping to have it all created within the first two weeks of the month and it’ll be available towards the end of the month. If you’re an aspiring blogger, stay tuned!
Step it up on social media.
I won’t deny it… I’m horrible at posting consistently on Snapchat and Instagram. My Twitter feed sometimes doesn’t have scheduled posts going out. And I’ve kind of hit a wall when it comes to exciting things to bring into my private Facebook group outside of the daily prompts. This month, all of that is going to change. I want to make sure I’m being present on the platforms I use, as opposed to getting so wrapped up in all my other tasks. I also want to spend more time cultivating the amazing community of ladies in my Facebook group.
In order to do that, I’m going to make sure I have content always scheduled to go out on each of my platforms. However, I also want to make sure I’m taking the time each day to log on and engage with people more often. Those are two important keys when keeping up a consistent presence on social media. So, come hang out with me on Snapchat or Instagram this month because you’re going to be seeing a lot more of them there!
Continue yoga and get back into the habit of daily meditation.
Throughout the month of January, I participated in Yoga with Adriene’s 31 Day Yoga Revolution. (A free challenge on YouTube.) It had been a very long time since I had done yoga consistently, but let me tell you… I loved it. It has felt so great to start each and every day with a 30-minute yoga session. Plus, Adriene is a fantastic teacher and her videos are so easy to follow along with.
Although her 31-day challenge is over, I plan to continue doing yoga every morning as a way to start my day. I’ve noticed that on the days I do yoga, I just feel happier and more energized. So, I plan to check out her other yoga videos on YouTube and choose one to do each morning.
I also want to get back into the habit of daily meditation. My personal favorite meditations are ones that include some sort of positive affirmations, so I love the ones from ladies like Carrie Green (Female Entrepreneur Association) and Melanie Bundock. With meditations on abundance, productivity, and more… These are perfect to start your day off on the right foot!
Make a dent in my reading list.
You guys, I was kind of horrible with reading in 2016. Actually, that’s an understatement. I didn’t finish a single book in all of last year. Crazy, right? Unfortunately, that has meant there are tons of books on my shelf that have gone unread and plenty of others collecting on my virtual reading list. You see, I started a few books last year, but never managed to finish them. For some reason, I just never felt compelled to read, which is really unlike me.
I typically set a goal for myself to read 24 books each year and it’s been a little while since I’ve hit that goal. In fact, I believe the last time was 2014. So, this year I’m committing myself to reading more often. I’m already one book down because I read The Magnolia Project by Chip and Joanna Gaines last month. (I highly recommend it if you’re a Fixer Upper fan.) While I’m not sure which book to choose next, I have a lot to choose from. If you have any great books on your reading list for this year, let me know what they are!
Last Month’s Goals:
- Get back to blogging and stick to my schedule. This goal started off strong in January and I even had an impressive editorial calendar prepared. Unfortunately, so many other projects came up that it meant my blog had to take a backseat to everything else. The good news is that I have plenty of amazing posts lined up for this month and you’re going to love them!
- Update all of my blog posts images. This is probably one of the more tedious tasks on my list, which is why I still haven’t tackled it yet. I’m not 100% happy with the design for my blog post images and I need something I truly love before I start changing them for every single post.
- Create my business plan for the full year. I actually don’t do a detailed plan for the entire year in January because that would be silly. Something would surely change before the second half of the year arrived. What I did do is decide what my main projects would be for this year and I chose when I would focus on them based on the quarters of the year. And guess what? I have three projects in the works for the first quarter. Stay tuned!
- Focus on my health and wellness. I’d say this goal was a success in January and something I plan to keep up with throughout February. As mentioned, I got into the habit of doing yoga every morning, which has really been a game changer for me.
