Do you ever feel like you aren’t seeing the results you hoped for when it comes to your business?
Well, there’s a good chance that the reason things aren’t working out for you is that you aren’t getting enough visibility.
In order to build a community and generate sales, people need to actually see you online. And they don’t stand much of a chance of that happening if you aren’t actively putting yourself out there to reach new people.
But where the trouble comes into play is that, far too often, we hold ourselves back from being visible. Either we don’t know how to be seen online or we’re just too afraid to put ourselves out there.
We know that we want to be creating live videos, reaching out to others for collaborations, and launching exciting things… But we’re just too afraid to make the move.
I want to help you get over the fear of being visible online so you can confidently put yourself out there and connect with your target audience.
So, What Causes the Fear of Being Visible Online?
Well, there are a number of things that could be standing in your way. The first might be imposter syndrome. If you’re struggling with imposter syndrome, you’ll have feelings of inadequacy. You think everyone else is better than you and knows more than you do. And if you put yourself out there online, you’re worried you’ll be found out as a fraud.
You might also fall into the trap of comparing yourself to other people. In this case, you just feel like you aren’t good enough. Everyone else seems like they’re light years away in terms of success and it feels like there’s no way to catch up to them.
Or maybe it’s a fear of failure that’s holding you back from going for what you want. You’re scared to put in so much hard work, only for it to be a flop.
No matter where your fear stems from, we’ve all been there before. What you need to do now is figure out how to overcome it.
How to Get Over the Fear of Being Visible Online
It’s crucial that you actually make progress towards kicking this fear to the curb, otherwise it’s only going to continue hindering your success. You have to push all the negative crap out of your mind so you can show up as the confident business owner you are deep down. And here’s how you do that.
1. Be Honest About What You’re Afraid Of
When you gain clarity about what’s actually holding you back, you can address your fears head-on. Think about it… You can’t simply put a Band-Aid over the problem and cross your fingers that it’ll go away. Without addressing the root cause, it’s going to keep coming back again and again. You have to figure out what’s really standing in your way so you can work through it.
So, think back to the common fears I mentioned before. There’s imposter syndrome, the comparison trap, and the fear of failure. Is it one of those things that’s been crippling you and your business?
Does the thought of gaining visibility send waves of panic through you because you don’t think you’re good enough? You might have imposter syndrome.
Do you see all the success others experience and just feel like it’s never going to happen for you, so why bother? You’ve probably been comparing yourself to others way too often. Or maybe it’s just that you can’t stand the idea of all your hard work going to waste… That’s a fear of failure.
Whatever the fear is, you have to figure it out. My advice is to journal on it. Sit down with a notebook and a pen and ask yourself why you’re so afraid to show up and put yourself out there. What is it that’s standing in your way? Then, ask yourself if what you’ve written is ultimately true.
Are people really going to judge you? Probably, but even the most successful people face criticism and they still put themselves out there. Even J.K. Rowling has haters! But do you care about what people have to say anyway? Well, if they’re not your target audience, then no!
Is it true that you simply aren’t good enough when it comes to your business? Of course not! You’re talented and capable of anything you want to achieve. You see, all of these things that you’re guilty of believing just aren’t true, so why are you letting them take over your life?
2. Rewrite Your Fears Into Positive Affirmations
The next thing I want you to do is to rewrite your fears into positive affirmations. This way, you’ll have a list of incredible affirmations you can recite at the start of each day to really get things off on the right foot. So, let’s say that you’re worried about being judged by others. To counteract that belief, you can say things like: What matters is that I’m proud of my work and I am proud of my work. The work I do is making a difference in the world. Judgements of others won’t stop me from pursuing my dreams.
Feeling like you just aren’t good enough? You can say: I am smart, skilled, and capable of achieving anything I set my mind to. My work resonates with my target audience and they love to share it. Everything I need to succeed is already within me.
Once you have a list, I want you to recite them every single day while looking at yourself in the mirror. As you speak each affirmation aloud, feel it as being true. Visualize how different your life would be. Think about how you would show up, how you’d dress, how’d you feel, whatever. Step into the vibration of being that confident person who doesn’t hold herself back.

3. Make Learning a Priority
Let’s be real here… Focusing on learning can help improve your confidence because you’ll feel better about your skills and what you have to share with the world.
So, are you prioritizing your personal development? Because you should be! Invest in your knowledge through books, courses, and coaching. When you do, you’ll have a wealth of knowledge that you can pass on to others.
4. Practice Showing Up Every Day
We’ve all heard the saying that practice makes perfect. And while I’m not trying to teach perfectionism here, you still have to practice in order to improve.
Maybe you have this goal to show up more frequently on Instagram Stories, but you’ve been holding yourself back. You’re worried you won’t have anything to share or that people will think your Stories are boring.
Well, in order to get over the fear of being visible, you just need to do the damn thing! Start showing up on Instagram Stories. It doesn’t have to be perfect. What’s important is that you put yourself out there and just learn from the process. Use what you learn to get better every single time.
5. Focus on the Value, Rather Than the Sale
We often feel the fear of being visible online when it comes to promoting our offerings. But obviously, we can’t make sales if we never speak about the things we have that people can buy.
If selling makes you feel uncomfortable, focus more on the value that your offering is providing to people. Think about the fact that there are people out there who need what you can provide to them. There are people who will happily pay for your product or service because it’s going to change their lives.
6. Accept That You Aren’t for Everyone
Remember that not everyone is going to like you. You won’t be everyone’s cup of tea. Instead, of worrying about making everyone like you, you need to prioritize liking yourself. When you do, you’ll confidently put yourself out there and let the fear of being visible online fade away. Then, those who discover you will be instantly drawn to you and your work.
