How would you like to become more productive in your business?
Would you love to gain more clarity on your business goals and manifest all the success you desire?
How would you like to feel more energized and excited to work on your business every single day?
For any online business owner, those things sound like a dream. But they can absolutely become your reality! And all it takes is for you to adopt a few key habits for a better business.
8 Habits for a Better Business
These are daily, weekly, and monthly habits that are going to transform how you run your business. They’ll help you become more productive, better manage your money, and even shift into an abundant mindset!
Each of these habits are ones that I’ve incorporated into my business, so I can truly attest to the fact that they work for me. Figure out which ones are right for you and start committing to them now!
1. Set Office Hours & Stick to Them
This is a classic productivity tip that has become crucial for me since I started working from home years ago. The thing is, when you work from home, it can be difficult to shut down at the end of the day. This can often lead to us becoming overworked and totally burnt out. And that’s exactly what we want to prevent from happening!
So, one of my essential habits for a better business is to set virtual office hours and stick to them. That means I start and end my work day at the same time every day. Now, it doesn’t mean I never have a late night. I do, but I just make sure they aren’t occurring all the time. For the most part, I plan out my days according to my office hours and I really hold myself to it.
If you’re working a full-time job and your business is a side hustle, you can still do this. Just set office hours for yourself when you have free time available. And make this time for your business a priority! If you want to see exponential growth, you have to put in the work.

2. Theme Your Days & Batch Tasks
We all have those moments where it just doesn’t feel like there’s enough time in the day to get it all done. While we can’t add more hours to our days, that doesn’t mean all hope is lost. Instead, we can just become more efficient with the time we do have.
You can do that by setting a theme for each day and batching your tasks. What does that mean exactly?
Giving each day of the week an overall theme essentially tells you what you’ll be working on and when. Let’s take my work week, for example. Monday is for admin tasks like working on my website, scheduling social media, etc. Tuesday, Wednesday, and Thursday are when I take client calls. In between calls, I work on other projects. And on Friday, it’s all about content creation like writing blog posts and filming YouTube videos.
The reason themed days works is because it keeps me focused. For instance, keeping my client calls to specific days allows me to be more organized. I don’t really want a client call smack dab in the middle of my Friday, which can be difficult to schedule around. Instead, I have back to back calls on those days and that allows me to get into the right mindset for talking to clients as opposed to bouncing back and forth between tasks.
And the same goes for batching tasks. You won’t be switching between various tasks, so you can stay focused and accomplish more in the time you do have. This is why I love to write multiple blog posts in one sitting. Once I get into the writing groove, it’s easier to stay there.
3. Track Your Finances Regularly
Do you ever avoid looking at your bank accounts because you’re scared of what you will (or won’t) see? I get it! But here’s the thing… You have to be aware of what’s going on with your finances, otherwise you’re just asking for trouble.
Ignorance is not bliss in this case. You need to see what’s coming in and what’s going on. And you should be tracking it regularly! Don’t just wait until the end of the month or the end of the quarter either! At the least, you should review your finances each week to ensure you’re on track.
I highly recommend using the Lucky Bitch app on iOS for tracking all the money that comes your way. It allows you to input your business income, salary, gifts, and anything else you may track. Plus, it encourages you to express gratitude and feel abundant with each entry. I do this every day!
4. Start Your Day With Journaling
You might be wondering what in the world journaling has to do with anything. But I promise you, this is truly one of my habits for a better business. The reason is because it shifts my mindset and can help me gain clarity on my business goals. In fact, journaling has helped me generate some new ideas for offerings!
And the good news is, you can journal any way you like. You can try doing Morning Pages, where you fill up three pages with anything that comes to mind. It’s essentially like one big brain dump to start your day. Or you can follow journaling prompts you find online.
I actually use journal prompts to inspire what I write each morning. Plus, I incorporate scripting, which is a way to help me manifest what I want to attract into my life. It’s pretty powerful!
5. Incorporate a Workout Into Your Day
There’s no denying that exercise can truly transform your day. It can boost your mood and get you energized and ready for the day ahead. Personally, I find that when I work out in the morning, it makes me have a much better day. I’m happier and more motivated.
So, I’d like to challenge you to make time for exercise in the morning if you aren’t already. And I know you might be thinking, “There’s no way I can fit that in!” But before you completely right it off, give it a try! When you see how much it can change your day, you’ll want to make time for it in the future.
It doesn’t have to be an intense workout either. You can do a little yoga session or go for a brisk walk around your neighborhood. And the best thing is, we have access to so many free workout videos online. There really is no excuse for not working out! Personally, I love the Tone It Up app!
6. Have a Life Outside of Your Business
As business owners, it can often seem like we spend every waking moment on our to-do lists. It’s just the way it goes sometimes! However, we can’t let our businesses completely take over our lives. We still need to have a social life and spend time with friends and family if we hope to maintain our sanity!
Make it a habit to schedule in time away from your business. You can set weekly lunch dates with best friends. Plan out date nights or a night with your girls. Do whatever you have to in order to prioritize your personal life! It’s important in leading a healthy life.
7. Network With Other Business Owners
Not only should you make time to connect with friends and family, but you should also network with other business owners. The reality is, sometimes our close friends just don’t “get it.” If they aren’t business owners themselves, they won’t be able to relate to the struggles you’re going through on the things you’re working on. And it’s important that you have a support system you can lean on who can relate!
Find some other business owners you really connect with and start building relationships with them. These can be people who you just know online or you might find some great people locally. Then, make it a habit to stay in touch with them. Trust me when I say that having those relationships will make a world of a difference in the long-run!
If you’re looking for locals to connect with, I highly recommend checking to see if you have a local chapter of Rising Tide Society’s Tuesdays Together.
8. Be Grateful for Even the Smallest Achievements
And to finish up my list of habits for a better business… BE GRATEFUL! I know it’s so hard to stay motivated and excited about your business when you aren’t seeing the progress you desire. However, you can’t let it get you down. Instead, celebrate even the smallest achievements you experience and express gratitude for them. And keep the faith that your breakthrough is right around the corner. One of the best ways to do this? Start a gratitude journal!
