Look the Part
1. Stand tall.
Your nonverbal cues speak volumes. And the bad thing is, you may not even realize what you’re doing sometimes. (Hey, your mom can’t always be around to tell you to stop slouching!) Remember to stand up straight and have a smile on your face. Having correct posture by standing tall shows that you are sure of yourself.
2. Pick the right outfit.
The clothes you were can easily change your mood. I don’t know about you, but if I try to work from home in my pajamas, I just don’t feel productive. It makes me feel lazy and unmotivated. But if I take the time to get dressed, I feel so much better. There are two things to keep in mind when getting dressed each morning:
- Wear something you feel comfortable in. That means you should wear something you love. But it also means to wear something that actually fits you. Nothing too big or too small, otherwise you will be fussing with it all day long.
- Dress appropriately for the day. For example, if you’re heading to a job interview or a meeting, you’ll want to wear something professional. Also keep in mind that it’s better to be overdressed than under-dressed! And when you’re dressed right for the occasion, other people will take notice!
I’ll let you in on a little secret… Wearing bold lipstick is a confidence booster for me!
Feel the Part
3. Have a mantra.
A great way to start your day off on the right note is to have a mantra. Every morning when you wake up, look in the mirror and recite your mantra of choice. Remind yourself that you are beautiful, intelligent, and confident. Add whatever phrases are appropriate for you. It may seem silly, but taking a couple minutes to recite your mantra will put you in a positive mood and leave you feeling ready to tackle the day. When you make that decision to be more confident, you will become confident.
4. Figure out what confidence means.
What does confidence mean to you? When you think of a confident person, what does that person do that makes you think he or she is confident? How does that person act? What qualities does that person have? Think about what defines confidence for you and incorporate more of those qualities into your own life.
