It can be a little hard for me to stay motivated sometimes when I’m working from home. The truth is, I can get sucked into distractions pretty easily. And when you’re at home, there’s the temptation to watch TV, crawl into bed to take a nap, and about a million other things to consume your attention. Whether you work from home or an office, or you’re a busy student, or none of the above, staying motivated isn’t always easy. Here are some tips I’ve found to be helpful on how to stay motivated and achieve your goals:
Make a List
I don’t know about you, but I am a big list-maker. It may partially be because I have an obsession with paper goods, so I’m always buying to-do list notepads. There’s no shortage of those in my desk. But I also love making lists as a way to stay organized. And there’s something so satisfying about checking things off that list and finally completing every last task. Don’t you think?
It may seem a little silly, but rewarding yourself is a great way to stay motivated. If a nice, little treat is at stake, you’ll be eager to get down to business and accomplish every last one of your goals. How would you reward yourself? What kind of gift would get you working? Pick something you’ll be excited to receive, but don’t go overboard on something extravagant if you can’t afford it. Consider buying yourself a gift card to Sephora and saving it until you’ve met your goal. Then you can treat yourself to a new lipstick or two! Or maybe something simple like a night of Netflix as a reward is enough motivation to get you working. Or perhaps a new pair of shoes…
Set Small, Actionable Goals
Is there a big goal on your plate that feels kind of, well, daunting? Instead of thinking only about the bigger picture, split that big goal up into smaller, actionable ones that will be easier to meet. It’ll seem less scary when you think of the individual tasks you have to complete to meet your larger goal. You can also set deadlines to make sure you stay on track. Meeting your goals has never been easier!
And for some added encouragement, incorporate the reward method into this plan. For example, every time you hit a small goal, set aside a certain amount of money and in the end, you’ll be left with a nice chunk of change to treat yourself to that special gift you’ve been eyeing!
Get an Accountability Partner
Having someone (or a group!) to hold you accountable for meeting your goals is, surprisingly, a great way to stay motivated. When you have someone there to cheer you on, it’s going to give you that extra push. You don’t want to let down your accountability partner, do you? Having someone provide their support and encouragement is a game-changer for me. I love to share my goals with my accountability partner and other bloggers and business owners. The support I receive from these people is a reminder that I can accomplish anything and you can, too! In turn, you get to encourage your accountability partner on the things she’s working on and seeing her succeed is a great feeling!
